I Get Emotional
The creative process is a fascinating thing. I am always appreciative when I’m flooded with ideas and inspiration from the universe. I especially love those moments when I realize that I’m onto something that could be really wonderful.
For me, I know I have found something that could be good when I am suddenly overcome with emotion. I can imagine a moment in a show, see how the music and movement could merge to create a certain experience for the audience, and my eyes will suddenly fill with tears. My get goose bumps and am overcome with an emotional feeling.
Every time this happens I am relieved and grateful. I feel so lucky to be able to do this work, and the times when I get in that “flow” and the ideas come to me are something I cherish. All creative people know this moment, and I’m sure we all experience it in our own way. For me, I am overcome with the feelings of what the audience and performers could FEEL in that moment, and then I can’t wait to bring it to life. This inspiration keeps me going and make the hard work easier.
Of course not all of these moments end up being the overwhelming experience that I’m hoping they will be, for there are innumerable things that are out of my control as a show is brought to life. And sometimes I just get things wrong. But many of the times when I have this emotional response, it turns out to be pretty great!
There are things we all can do to create the right environment and frame of mind to make the creative work possible. I recently found this video which had some great ideas that you might like also.
Set yourself up for success and then enjoy the process. It’s hard work and can require patience and diligence, but those special moments of inspiration make it all worthwhile.
