The basis for a solid color guard education starts here, with simply understanding how to spin a flag and put flag moves together to create choreography. For instructors, this course creates an understanding of how to teach these skills in such a way that each builds logically on the one before it and minimizes the amount of time it takes for students to learn new skills.

About the Course

The basis for any good color guard education starts with a deep understanding of flag manipulations (usually referred to as “spinning”, even when the flag does not actually spin). A lot of performers will tell you that their first move that they learned was a “drop spin” but in reality, there were probably some movements that built up to that spin – whether the performer realized it and the moves were defined or they were simply innate.

Each Module within this course will cover a category of movements that builds on the category before it, explaining why this progression exists and works for students. Then it will progress into defining a series of movements that demonstrate achievement in that category along with videos that teach you how to do the movements themselves. The module will then present some “Level Up” options for how to give the basic flag movements more depth, variety, and layering as your skills and the skills of your students progress.
