Color Me Fascinated

As we get near to the end of our major renovation in our new home, we are picking paint colors for the hallway.  The bedroom colors have been chosen and the rooms painted, and now we’re near the last steps of this process.

This morning I walked into Lowes to get samples of three different purple colors we are considering for our upstairs hallway.  In the running are Plum Good, Dewberry, and Anthology.  (Check back on this blog page to see which one we decided to go with!)

As the helpful paint guy at Lowes was mixing the paints, he mentioned that I was wearing a purple shirt.  Purple paint colors…purple shirt…  I told him that I had not done this intentionally, but had simply chosen a shirt this morning as I was heading out the door.  He told me that this happens all the time.  People often show up wearing the color that they are purchasing!

He shared that one time a couple had showed up purchasing green and beige, and the man was in a green shirt and the woman was wearing beige!

It’s fascinating how the brain works!  So much is happening subconsciously that we don’t even realize!  I know that my many of my best creative ideas appear when I’m not actually thinking about the topic.  If I’m stuck trying to figure out something when writing music or creating a drill moment, I have learned that taking a break and not concentrating on it will help the solution to appear.  My best ideas come in the shower or when walking the dog.  We take our mind off the problem, but our brain continues to work in the background.  Then the answer appears when we’re not trying to force anything.

We have a number of podcasts and webinars about the brain and how it works on our website at Marching Arts Education.  I think you’ll find there is a lot of information that we can use as we are working with our students and making plans for effective teaching.  Just put “Brain” into the search bar to find lots of great information and ideas!  Or click on the links below!

Now I need to go check on the sample colors we’ve painted on the wall.  I’ll post our choice later today!
