Waiting

I love crepe myrtles, and our new house has one right in front of the window to our library at Phantom History House.  (see picture!).  I love the bright cheerful colors of these trees that bloom each summer.  I even love the strange bare shapes of the branches in the winter.

We moved into our house in September and the crepe myrtle in the front yard had finished blooming by that time.  So I’m waiting to see what color it is!  Crepe myrtles come in white, pink, purple, red, and watermelon, plus some variations on all of those!

I have never been incredibly patient, and I found this struggle with patience was challenged over the last few years in a big way.  So it’s been interesting to note that I am enjoying the wait for the reveal of the color of the blooms on this crepe myrtle.

I’m not sitting around wanting it to rush through it’s growth process.  I don’t go outside each day hoping it has bloomed.  I am enjoying the wait.  I take note each day or two of how close it seems to be to the moment where it will bud, and I have noted that I have not been in a rush.  Yes, I’m excited to find out what color this important plant is that sits right in the front of the house, but I’m also okay if it’s a few more days before I know.

Much of what we all do in our lives requires so much patience.  There can a lot of waiting, from watching our musicians improve and our band get better, to standing in line for the new Tron coaster at the Magic Kingdom.  There can be beauty in recognizing the process and letting it unfold.

Yes, the drill WILL get clean, that flagwork will get learned, we will see this year’s DCI shows, and my crepe myrtle will bloom.  I’ll share a picture here of the color once it’s unveiled.  Until then, I enjoy watching the plant grow and move closer to it’s moment!  Take time to look around you and find something to watch and wait for.  Perhaps a new building is going up in your neighborhood, or someone you love is learning a new skill.  Watch and encourage and enjoy the wait.

UPDATE: It’s White!
