Those Who Want and Those Who Need
There are many reasons why we decided to start the Marching Roundtable podcast over 13 years ago, but there is one reason I mention quite often. We’ve all had the experience of watching a performance and then thinking “If this director and their staff only knew a COUPLE of things, these kids could be having a much better experience.” So we decided to make the information available that could help those in our activity “be more successful and enjoy their work more.”
After over 1200 podcast releases and hundreds of hours of webinars and videos interviews, we are proud of the resource we have created. But we cannot make someone take the time to watch and learn. You can lead a horse to water….
I recently heard a recording of the great teacher Dr. Kennedy Shultz where he mentioned that, like AA, his teaching was for those who want it, not for those who need it. This resonated with me because the same is true for our resources at Marching Arts Education. Ultimately, the information we are making available is for those who want it. We cannot force those who need it to tune in.
Happily, many who DO need the information DO find us and take the time to improve their knowledge and skills. We feel that if only one person benefits from a conversation we share, then it was worth the time to record and produce. And it’s impossible to predict who will decide to take the time to listen and learn.
So we focus on those who DO tune in and work as hard as we can to make our content valuable and interesting. We know that many are listening and able to do better each time they begin their work. Thank you to all who WANT this information. We are creating it for you!
