The Apollonian Life

Apollo was the god of light.  You can have a life with more light, more balance, more strength and beauty and structure.  You can have it all!

On the current podcast I talk with Jonathan Hall about The Apollonian Life.  He and I had talked about this a few years ago, and Jonathan took these concepts and transformed his life!  You can do it too.

I first learned of this concept years ago when I was inspired by a classical pianist who was also a bodybuilder and poet.  This man explained that he was living an Apollonian Life, a life inspired by the concepts attributed to Apollo.  He was striving to live a life of culture, with appreciation for beauty and the arts, for strength and health and vitality, and for balance and structure.

We all know people who seem to have it all, and who seem to glide through life’s difficulties with grace and strength.  I find this very inspiring.  I don’t always get this right, but I aspire to these things every day.

Living successfully is hard work.  Planning healthier meals and making it to the gym requires effort and sweat.  Taking time to rest and play and learn and grow requires thought and structure.  Prioritizing time to focus on culture and beauty and the arts can require sacrifices.

But NOT doing this work also is difficult.  Feeling bad, lacking energy, struggling to get through each day, lacking purpose, being out of shape and unhealthy, these things also make life difficult.  I am willing to put in the work to have a life with joy and energy and health.

We’re all going to be on this planet for many more years (hopefully,) and we can pass those years feeling good or feeling bad, looking good or looking bad.  Though many things are out of our control, much is.

I choose to try to live from joy and purpose and creativity.  I can manage the hard work if I have goals and enjoy the process.  I don’t get it right every day, but I strive to be on a path toward growth and fulfillment.

But don’t take it from me.  I encourage you to listen to the podcast “The Apollonian Life” and hear Jonathan share his story of transformation.  I hope you’ll be inspired, like I was inspired by that classical pianist so many years ago.  Life can be a wonderful journey. Start to plan that journey today.
