Feel Good or Feel Bad
Growing up it was clear to me that things went better when we all got along. I was raised to be polite and kind to people, knowing that things improved for me when others were also happy and productive.
Unfortunately in current times there are many people who are trying to feel better about themselves by making fun of others. It seems that they have bought into the idea that if others are made to look and feel bad, then they will look and feel better about themselves.
But bullies are always miserable characters. That kid that always pushed me down or called me names was a very unhappy soul. Imagine thinking that you can feel powerful only by making others suffer!
The opposite is true. I can get the most self-esteem and enjoyment by helping others feel good. And the world improves for everyone as others find success and happiness.
I’ll admit I’ve always been a good guy, riding the white horse and hoping to arrive in the knick of time to save the day. And I know that many people love the villains and relish being a Slytherin or a stormtrooper. But you can love the villains without wanting everyone else to be in pain all the time.
Despite the fun my fellow citizens seem to have feeling like they are putting others in their place, I do not believe there is any real joy or happiness in this. Misery does love company, but who wants to wallow in a bunch of misery all life long?
There is a better way to move through this world, and I believe being one of the helpers is the best path. I encourage you to find ways to bring light and kindness to the world, and reject any ideas that only through making others suffer can you feel better about yourself. What a sad philosophy to live by!
I am here to make others feel good, and when they do, my world is a better place.
