It's easy to get discouraged these days, especially when dealing with news and social media. I often have to remind myself that there is kindness happening all around me, and I get to choose here I focus my attention.

Take advantage of this chance for a fresh start.  It can seem cliche' but there is power in a new year and turning a corner. (Thanks Rose Parade!)

The brain is a fascinating thing! This morning I walked into Lowes to get samples of three different purple colors we are considering for our upstairs hallway.  In the running are Plum Good, Dewberry, and Anthology.

In case you're not old enough to remember, there was a time when politicians in Washington worked together.  Compromise was possible and expected.

Like getting stronger in the gym, any skill we want to improve on is built over time with consistency and patience.

One of our more important jobs is to make sure that everyone on the team has what they need at all times.

One theme that has repeated itself over and over as I move has been the need for me to trust the professionals I have hired.  I kept reminding myself that I connected with and hired these particular people because I thought they were great at what they do, and I enjoyed being with them.

We can't all get our fellow citizens to act rationally or safely, but we can make sure we are making smart choices in our own lives.

After three years away from drum corps, I was happy to attend the Drum Corps International World Championships last week in Indy. It was DCI's 50th Anniversary and it was certainly a thrill.

Successful people think about success, plan for success, expect success, and work toward success. Figure out where you want to go, make a plan, and begin to work it.
