There is nothing more difficult than trying to deal with a person who will never admit they are wrong.  If you've ever worked with such a person, or heaven forbid tried to date one, you know what I mean.  Life is hard, and it's inevitable that we will make mistakes.  No one is perfect, and trying new things brings risks and problems.  Mistakes will happen.

But if you are faced with someone who will never admit their mistake, you have a big problem indeed.

These misguided individuals who will never admit a mistake believe that they are operating from a place of strength.  "Why, to admit I was wrong would show weakness."  Nothing could be further from the truth.  I firmly believe that it is a far greater show of strength to admit one was wrong, admit the mistake, make reparations, and move on with one's life and business.  If I've learned anything over all these years, it's that it is best to immediately admit a mistake, ask for forgiveness, and then move on.  Refusing to admit an error just begins an avalanche of problems and implications which can easily bury you in a flash.

Also, make sure your apology is a real one.  Nothing is more grating than to watch a celebrity or politician pretend to apologize.  You'll note that they will sometimes say "I'm sorry that I have upset you."  This is not the same as saying you are sorry for what you did.  It's just regretting that you got caught and it caused you problems.

One of our presidential candidates is very fond of declaring that "I will NEVER apologize for America!"  The crowds cheer wildly, interpreting a show of strength, but my skin crawls as I see great weakness of character and misguided ideas.  I do believe America tries hard to do the right thing, but goodness knows we mess up sometimes.  And we are fooling ourselves if we think the rest of the world doesn't see through our posturing and bravado.  They know weakness when they see it also.

So make it a policy to quickly admit mistakes and move on.  And please don't vote for anyone who declares they would NEVER apologize.  And by all means don't ever date them either!
