Pt. 1: PLANNING

  • Creating the Count Sheet
  • Meeting with the Design Staff (see a real show meeting take place)
  • Design Staff: Bob, Tim Hinton, Courtney Mills of ColorGuardEDU, Matt Black of Marian Catholic.
  • Assignment: Create your own count sheet and chart the first page of drill

SOME CLASS NOTES:

S.A.F.E.: Simple / Appropriate / Functional / Efficient – from the book “Design Yourself” by Hanks, Bulletin, Edwards – BUY THE BOOK

Bob also recommends “Art and Visual Perception” by Rudolph Arnheim

Considerations in creating the first set:

  • Do I really have a great idea for the initial placement?
  • Consider writing backwards
  • Consider TEXTURE (the visual key signature)
  • Consider FOCUS and how you create it
  • Consider placement of the instruments for good sound and balance
  • Consider the initial movement…what are you attempting to portray?
