Buy a Roller
There are many tools to help us stay healthy and feeling good, and one of my favorites is my roller. Trust me on this, purchase one and spend some time making friends with it each day. You will thank me later. (Send thank you notes here!)
Most of the time when I am having back pain, it stems from my glutes and hamstrings being tight. Of course, every body is different, but I’m willing to bet that you could benefit from some stretching and loosening of knots in your muscles. The most effective and efficient way I know to do this are to do some dynamic stretching each day and then spend some time on my roller.

Back in 2020 I did a live interview with a member of Paramount Winter Guard (watch here) where I asked them about their advice for continuing to perform at a high level even as we got older. They immediately mentioned their roller and how effective this was.
After some dynamic stretching, I spend some time each morning rolling on the floor while sitting on the roller. My body weight pushing down on the roller helps to release tension and knots in the muscles. I feel better every single time. Yes, this can sometimes be a touch painful, but it’s a good pain as you breathe and feel the muscles release. Trust me, you need this in your life!
I’ve reached the point where I have to spend some time each morning moving and stretching my body. It’s just part of my life routine.
